Galatasaray’s decision to bring in Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly caused discontent with their current star striker, Mauro Icardi.
According to Selchuk Manav, a correspondent for Gazzetta dello Sport in Istanbul, Icardi is unhappy and jealous over the arrival of Osimhen, who joined the Turkish club on loan from Napoli.
Icardi played a crucial role in Galatasaray’s title-winning campaign last season, scoring vital goals for the team.
However, his current frustration comes at a time when the Argentine forward is sidelined with an injury sustained during Galatasaray’s match against Adana Demirspor last Saturday, which is expected to keep him out of action for a month.
“Icardi is jealous, and I’m certain he’s not pleased with the signing of Osimhen,” Manav said.
He added that Galatasaray’s coach, Okan Buruk, lacks significant influence within the club and that Icardi, along with his agent Wanda Nara, have held considerable sway over the team’s decisions in recent years.
“We are happy with Osimhen’s arrival, but Icardi’s jealousy will stir up more chaos within the club,” Manav concluded.
Osimhen has joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, with no option to buy.
