Remo Stars Suffer Heartbreak, Crash Out of CAF Champions League

Remo Stars FC has been eliminated from continental football for the third consecutive time, following a 2-0 defeat to ASFAR in Rabat.

The Ikenne-based team had secured a 2-1 victory over ASFAR in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match at the Remo Stars Stadium.

However, they couldn’t hold onto their advantage in Morocco, ultimately losing the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

This latest exit is a bitter pill to swallow for Remo Stars, who were seeking revenge after a similar fate in the 2022/2023 season.

Back then, they suffered a 2-1 home defeat to ASFAR in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The match in Rabat was tightly contested, with both teams failing to score in the first half.

However, the deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute when Joel Beya found the back of the net.

With the aggregate score tied at 2-2, controversy struck as the referee awarded a questionable penalty to ASFAR, which Amine Zouhzouh calmly converted, sealing Remo Stars’ fate.

Nigeria’s representation in continental competitions suffered another blow as El-Kanemi Warriors were also eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup, following a 2-1 away defeat to Dadje FC of Benin Republic at the General Mathieu Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou.
