Raphael Onyedika will be sidelined for approximately six weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Club Brugge’s thrilling 5-5 draw against Westerlo.
The Nigerian midfielder was substituted in the 16th minute, having previously enjoyed a consistent run of fitness without any notable injuries.
Onyedika has a reputation for maintaining good fitness in his career, with his longest absence from action being just two games in a single injury window.
In total, the 24-year-old has missed only nine matches due to injury.
This season, Onyedika has made eight appearances for Club Brugge and notably scored in Belgium’s 4-1 win over Monaco.

However, his current injury means he will miss Club Brugge’s crucial UEFA Champions League tie against Atalanta, along with several domestic fixtures.
In his absence, 20-year-old Aleksandar Stanković will step into the midfield role.
Stanković, who had been playing a secondary role to Onyedika, impressed during Brugge’s recent victory over Standard Liège.
If he continues his strong performances, Stanković could make it difficult for Onyedika to regain his starting spot when he returns to full fitness.
This injury also represents a great setback for both Club Brugge and the Nigerian national team.
Onyedika will be unavailable for the Super Eagles final round of 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic next month, a blow for coach Eric Chelle’s plans.
