Brighton are working on signing Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey from Ajax, but Rangers won’t earn a sell-on fee according to reports.

Bassey left Rangers for Ajax last summer in a deal worth £18.7 million and he is now set to join the Seagulls for a similar fee less than a year into the five-year contract he signed.

It was reported that Rangers negotiated a clause that allowed them to earn 10% of the fee, should Ajax sell the player.

However, the latest report revealed the clause will be valid only when Ajax sells for more than the price they bought him.

Bassey has struggled to replicate his Rangers form at Ajax, and the Dutch side will be happy to let him leave for the fee they paid to acquire him.

Ajax and Brighton are expected to conclude negotiations in the coming days.
