Rafa Nadal makes shock Federer admission ahead of Mexican Open

Nadal is set to take to the court for the first time since he withdrew from the Australian Open through injury.

The Spaniard will take on he fellow countryman Feliciano Lopez in the opening round in Acapulco.

However, because Nadal withdrew from the last Grand Slam, and with Roger Federer winning the Rotterdam Open, the 31-year-old has dropped down to No 2 in the world rankings.

But the 16-time Major winner claims that he is not bothered about regaining his crown and surprising admitted he would not mind dropping to No 5 in the rankings.

“I play this tournament because I like it and, not because I’m trying to be number one in the world,” Nadal said.

“At this point in my career, I’m looking to be happy, and play in the proper weeks, whether No 1 or No 5 in the rankings.”

Nadal insists that he will continue playing because it makes him happy, not because he has goals of reaching the top once again.

He also added that he has fully recovered from his leg injury.
