Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru had a muted outing at the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio and AS Roma battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Lazio had the better of the opening half, with efforts from Alessio Romagnoli and Gustav Isaksen drawing smart saves from Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar.
The Biancocelesti eventually broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half, when Romagnoli pounced on a loose ball to put his side ahead.
However, Roma fought back, and their persistence paid off in the 69th minute through Matias Soule’s stunning strike that left the Lazio backline stunned.
Despite the game’s intensity and its implications in the race for Champions League qualification, Dele-Bashiru struggled to impose himself.
The 24-year-old, making his 28th appearance of the season, lasted 79 minutes on the pitch but was largely anonymous in midfield.
He completed just 10 of 14 attempted passes, finishing with a 71% pass accuracy.
The Nigerian managed only 24 touches, didn’t record a single shot or key pass and misfired on his sole dribble attempt. His one attempted cross was also unsuccessful.
While Dele-Bashiru failed to deliver a standout performance on the night, he remains a valued part of Marco Baroni’s squad.
The midfielder has tallied five goals and two assists across all competitions this season, showing flashes of promise despite averaging just 50 minutes per game.
The draw keeps Lazio in sixth place, two points ahead of Roma, who continue their late-season push for a European spot under Claudio Ranieri. The final minutes of the match saw chances at both ends, with Svilar making a brilliant double save to deny Boulaye Dia and Soule almost winning it for Roma with a curling effort.
Elsewhere in Serie A, Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta snapped a three-match losing streak with a 2-0 win over Bologna, moving them back into third place and strengthening their European ambitions.
