Confusion rocks Nigeria Basketball Federation, as Elections were held at different locations on different days.
Secretary General of the Nigerian Olympic committee, Tunde Popoola has stated that he wasn’t informed about any election that took place in Kano on Monday.
Popoola went further to confirm that the election conducted on Tuesday in Abuja is the one recognized by the Sports Ministry and the NBBF which saw Musa Ahmadu-Kida elected new President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).
Ahmadu-Kida, was unopposed at the election held yesterday at the Grand Ibro Hotel, Abuja, under the supervision of the Sports Ministry and Tunde Popoola.
But an election held on Monday, June 12 in Kano saw Alhaji Tijani Umar return as NBBF President.
And this has caused series of tension within the Federation.
“The Election conducted yesterday is the only recognized election for now.
“Ahmadu-Kida is confirmed as the President of NBBF, and so I don’t know about any NBF election in Kano, Popoola said,”.
Speaking after his victory, Kida believes that the only way Nigeria’s basketball can grow, is by uniting all stakeholders in the game.
Kida said: “Our basketball family has to come together and unite, we need to understand that basketball is played on the courts and not in offices or on the pages of newspapers. Everyone interested in basketball development will automatically be on my team.
“In my disposition, the zonal representatives are going to be very focused in basketball development at the grassroots. That will also extend yo state chairmen. As Rivers basketball head, South-South representative and President of NBBF, I’m disposed to enhancing basketball development at all levels.”
“My team is vibrant, exceptionally diverse and I’m confident of the quality of their strength. We can grow on the strength of every individual on the board,” he added.
