Ashleigh Plumptre, has shed light on the reasons behind her prolonged absence from the Super Falcons.

Despite her standout performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the CB has not featured for the Super Falcons since, prompting inquiries into her exclusion by interim head coach Justin Madugu.

 

Plumptre, clarified that her absence is a personal decision, and a choice to step away from representing the nine-time African champions.

The disclosure offers a glimpse into the defender’s current perspective on her international career with Nigeria.

“Yeah, I guess it has been a break. I haven’t been able to go to the upcoming camp, like I said, it’s more of a personal decision while I take care of my body,” Plumptre said in an interview with Nigeria Football.

“But ultimately, I want to be fun with the team. It’s a privilege. And I want to be in the best physical condition to be able to go and compete in important games.”

The 25-year-old who joined Al Ittihad recently, has earned 15 caps for Nigeria.
