Player of the Week: Mo Salah Still The Real Deal

The Premier League is back, and what an eventful opening week it has been, reminding us just how much we’ve missed top-flight football.

Leading the charge as our first Player of the Week is none other than the Egyptian King himself, Mo Salah.

New season, new hair, but same Salah.

Liverpool, now under the guidance of new coach Arne Slot, secured victory in their first Premier League match of the season.

Though the club is yet to make any new signings, the old guard delivered the goods, with Mohamed Salah in particular standing out.

He assisted the first goal, scored by Diogo Jota, and found the back of the net himself for Liverpool’s second.

Salah was once again all business on the opening day, making history by becoming the all-time leading scorer on Premier League opening days.

No player in the history of the competition has netted more goals on the first day of the season than the Egyptian, who now boasts an impressive tally of nine, setting a new record since the competition began in 1992.

Though there are question marks over his future as he enters the final year of his contract with Liverpool, and some have speculated how the veteran might fit into Slot’s preferred style of wing play, Salah proved he has nothing to worry about and is just as vital as ever.

The only Premier League opening day where Salah failed to score was last season in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
