Former Nigerian international Eddy Dombraye has emphasized the importance of strong player management as the key for Eric Chelle, the new Super Eagles coach, to succeed.

According to Dombraye, building a solid relationship with the players should take precedence over tactics as Chelle aims to establish a winning formula for the team.

Chelle, who was recently unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a one-year extension if he secures World Cup qualification.

Dombraye acknowledged the scepticism that greeted Chelle’s appointment, stating that many fans and stakeholders are unsure about his capability. However, he believes the coach will be motivated to silence his critics.

“It’s not always about tactics; it’s about the relationship you have with the players,” Dombraye said in an interview with Brila.net.

“Luckily for him, we have great local coaches on ground who understand man management.”

Dombraye highlighted Chelle’s determination to succeed in the face of widespread doubt. “He’s coming in with energy and a mindset to prove his critics wrong. He’s probably thinking, ‘Everyone is against me, but I’ll prove them wrong.’ With the great local coaches he has behind him, he will do well.”
