‘PLAY BY THE RULES’ – NWFL Head Nkechi Obi Issues Strong Call to Club Owners

As the NWFL enters Matchday 5, league chairperson Nkechi Obi has once again urged club owners to step up their commitment to player welfare, support, and incentives in a bid to elevate the women’s game.

Obi, who has been vocal about her ambition to see the NWFL compete with Africa’s top leagues, stressed that executives at various clubs must do better in ensuring the proper welfare of players.

“Good luck to them, but they also have a huge responsibility, first and foremost, to play by the rules.”

“Secondly, to ensure that the best practices that can bring out the best in them are inculcated in their clubs.”

She explained that adopting global best practices and providing the right resources are key to improving the league’s standard.

“To do things the way we conduct global best practices, the way it is done, and then to provide the necessary tools, and when I say tools, be they material, financial, or physical equipment, that women need to bring out the best in them.”

With the NWFL gaining more recognition, Obi’s sends a reminder that the league’s growth depends not only on talent but also on the commitment of club executives to create a professional and competitive environment for players.
