Pitch Invasion Halts NPFL Match Between Rangers and Enyimba

The highly-anticipated NPFL match between Enugu Rangers and reigning champions Enyimba was abandoned deep into stoppage time after fans invaded the pitch disrupting the game.

The match was goalless as it entered added time, however, when center referee John Ojeleye awarded a penalty to the home side, Enugu Rangers, fans of Enyimba stormed the pitch in protest, forcing the match to be abandoned.

Both sides had failed to score throughout the match, mirroring the outcome of their previous encounter in Aba, which also ended in a draw.

This latest disruption leaves the title race unchanged, with Enugu Rangers maintaining their lead at 62 points, followed closely by Enyimba with 60 points.

The league management body is now tasked with deciding the consequences of the incident.

This is the second time in the current campaign that Enyimba has been embroiled in controversy, following a similar pitch invasion by their fans during a game against Doma United.

In other centers, third-placed Remo Stars suffered a significant setback in their title pursuit, losing 3-2 to Lobi Stars in Lafia.

The defeat leaves them three points behind the leaders, Enugu Rangers.

NPFL Relegation Battle Intensifies with Thrilling Encounters

The NPFL relegation battles are proving to be as intense, with several teams embroiled in a fight for survival.

Sporting Lagos missed a crucial opportunity to move closer to safety after surrendering a two-goal lead at Bayelsa United.

Jonathan Alukwu’s second-half brace for Sporting Lagos was cancelled by Bassey John’s brace for the hosts, resulting in a 2-2 draw that leaves both teams’ survival hopes in the balance.

Both teams now sit perilously close to the relegation zone with 43 points each, though Bayelsa United remains inside the relegation zone.

In Akure, Sunshine Stars secured a vital 2-0 victory over Akwa United, thanks to goals from Lucky Nwafor and Yusuf Ibrahim.

This win allowed Sunshine Stars to climb out of the relegation zone, though Akwa United remains just two places above the drop zone, also with 43 points.

Meanwhile, 10-man Heartland managed a 3-1 victory over Doma United in Owerri.

However, this win wasn’t enough to lift Heartland from their 19th position, and Doma United also remain entrenched in the relegation zone with 43 points.

The relegation battle in the NPFL continues to be a fierce contest, with multiple teams fighting to avoid the drop as the season progresses.
