Peseiro Refuse To Blame Osimhen, Zaidu For Draw Against Equitorial Guinea

Super Eagles’ head coach Jose Peseiro asserted that his team rightfully earned a victory in their encounter against Equatorial Guinea.

The Super Eagles settled for a 1-1 draw against the Nzalang Nacional during their opening match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday afternoon.

“We did everything to win, we created many and clear opportunities, and we simply deserved to win”

Despite Peseiro’s side dominating the game, their performance was marred by subpar marksmanship.

Notably, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Zaidu Sanusi from the team squandered significant scoring opportunities during the match.

“I’m not happy with the draw. I’m sad, and my players are sad. We are all sad because we deserved to beat our opponent,” the Portuguese told a press conference.

“It’s normal to miss chances in football. I hope next time we’ll create chances and score more goals. We played well and pushed our opponent back. I just hope we can maintain this same attitude in our subsequent games.”

Up next in the AFCON 2023 finals, Nigeria is set to face the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.
