Peseiro has unfinished business with Super Eagles — NFF Official

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has agreed a contract renewal with Nigeria Football Federation.

Peseiro accepted to lower his $70,000 monthly salary, before signing a new deal that’ll see him remain in charge until after next African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire next year.

Peseiro has endured a difficult period with the NFF since arriving in 2022 as he’s currently being owed 9 months salaries.

Despite the poor treatment, he has qualified the three-time African Champions for next year’s Cup of Nations, with a game to spare.

However, an NFF board member who pleaded anonymous during an interview with BBC sports, says the Federation was able to keep the Portuguese due to his desire to continue with the team.

“Both the technical committee and the NFF board agreed that it actually makes sense to keep Peseiro,” a top NFF official told BBC Sport Africa.

“We actually considered the fast-approaching World Cup qualifiers and this new deal expires at the end of the Nations Cup. There is the general feeling that the coach may also feel like he has some unfinished business with the team.”

Nigeria will play their final AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe on 10 September.

The 63 year-old is expected to be on the bench for the encounter.
