Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has described the selection of Stanley Nwabili for this Month’s Africa Cup of Nations as a necessary decision, but insists the Goalkeeper must justify his invitation.

Peseiro included Nwabili in his final 25-man squad for the tournament after four days visit in South Africa.

Francis Uzoho’s recent underwhelming performances has been a concern and the Chippa United shot stopper is now expected give the Super Eagles first choice formidable competition.

“I tried to observe him in the video, not easy because Wyscout is the platform we use for videos, the South African League is not included there,” Peseiro said.

“They sent us some videos in the South African league, I asked the NFF President to go there. I was there in South Africa for four days to speak with him. I spoke with him, the coach, spoke with a lot of people.

“I watched the training and one match. After evaluation we decided to put him in the list because we believe in him. He showed good quality, good performance, good capacity.”

Peseiro hopes Nwabili replicate his club form in the national team.​

“Now I hope he shows in Super Eagles the same capacity, the same quality, the same performance because it’s different to play in the national team than to play in the club.”

Stanley Nwabili joined Chippa in the 2022/23 season and only became first choice in his second season at the Club.

The 27-year-old has his Super Eagles debut in an international against Mexico in July 2021 when he conceded four goals.
