Manchester City roared back into form on Sunday with a dominant 6-0 victory over Ipswich Town, climbing to fourth place in the Premier League.
Phil Foden shone with two goals and an assist, while Erling Haaland also found the net, as Pep Guardiola hailed his side’s performance as a return to their trademark brilliance.
“We are really pleased; we’re back to doing things that define this team over the last 10 years,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.
“The three points were vital, and it feels good to move into the Champions League spots for next season.”
City had struggled for consistency in recent months, but their display at the Etihad showcased the fluidity and precision that have been the hallmarks of Guardiola’s tenure. The Spaniard noted improvements across the pitch.
“Maybe not our absolute best, but much better. Everyone with the ball was clever, quick, and connected defensively. It’s closer to the consistency we’re known for,” he said.
Ipswich Left Searching for Answers
For Ipswich, the defeat was a harsh lesson. Defender Dara O’Shea admitted the team fell short against their formidable opponents.
“We didn’t execute our game plan the way we wanted. It was always going to be tough, and we wanted to give a good account of ourselves, but we probably didn’t do that,” O’Shea said.
Despite the setback, Ipswich, who sit 18th in the table with 16 points, remain determined to bounce back.
“The main thing is to learn from it. There’s massive belief in this group,” O’Shea added.
City’s Title Hopes Reignited
With the win, City moved to 38 points, reigniting their push for a top-four finish after a stuttering start to the season.
Guardiola’s side will now aim to build on this performance as they chase more success in the league and beyond.
