Paris 2024: Waldrum Rues Missed Chances Against Spain

Nigeria’s WNT head Coach, Randy Waldrum expressed his belief that his team could have secured a positive result against Spain had they capitalized on their opportunities.

Waldrum’s reflection comes after Nigeria suffered their second defeat at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Despite creating multiple chances, the Nigerian team failed to find the back of the net, ultimately conceding a late goal to the World Cup winners, Spain.

While disappointed with the outcome, the Nigeria coach remains optimistic about their upcoming match against Japan.

“We had three to four good opportunities today, regrettably, we did not convert them,” Waldrum remarked following the defeat.

“In the first half, we had a breakaway and Asisat Oshoala along with Rasheedat Ajibade missed their chances. Unfortunately, the Spanish took theirs.”

Waldrum acknowledged the strength of their opponents, saying, “We lost to two of the best teams in the world. Spain is the best team right now, and Brazil is in the top 10.

“We’ve shown that we could have gotten something out of those matches. It shows we can play against anybody in the world. So, I am proud of the players,” He told Sportsvillage.com.

To avoid early elimination, the Falcons must secure a victory against Japan by at least two goals.

Currently, they sit at the bottom of their group after defeats to both Brazil and Spain.
