Paris 2024: Waldrum Confident Super Falcons Will Make Impact

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has expressed disappointment over the team’s recent 1-0 defeat to Canada but remains optimistic about their progress as they prepare for the Paris Olympic Games.

The friendly match saw Canada capitalize on a mistake by midfielder Deborah Abiodun in the 8th minute, with Jordyn Huitema scoring the decisive goal.

Despite the loss, Waldrum praised his team’s performance, noting significant improvements since their last encounter against Canada.

“Obviously, you would like to win, but I think our performance was very positive,” Waldrum said, according to Afrik Foot.

“We were very good in the attacking phase, and our possession was good.”

Reflecting on the team’s progress, Waldrum added, “It was a much better performance than we had in the World Cup against them.

“We created more chances and have seen a lot of improvement since then.”

The defeat marks Nigeria’s first loss in 15 games, their previous defeat being a 1-0 loss to Colombia in February 2023.

Despite the setback, Waldrum remains confident as the team heads to Paris.

“Even though I am disappointed with the one mistake, we turned the ball over in a bad place, I thought we were good today (Wednesday),” he said.

“A lot of questions I had were answered today, including the penalty kicks. I am confident as we head to Paris for the Olympics.”
