Paris 2024: Waldrum Cites Lack of Preparation Time for Super Falcons Early Exit

The Super Falcons’ coach Randy Waldrum has attributed his team’s group stage exit from the Paris 2024 Olympics to insufficient preparation time.

The Super Falcons lost all three of their group stage matches.

Their campaign began with a 1-0 defeat to Brazil, followed by another 1-0 loss to Spain, and concluded with a 3-1 defeat to Japan on Wednesday.

In an interview with ESPN, Waldrum highlighted the challenges his team faced.

“We prepared for them (all three opponents) based on the fact that we haven’t had a lot of time,” he stated.

“Preparation efforts were significantly impacted by visa issues, which delayed the arrival of several invited players to the camp. Additionally, injuries to key players like Ashleigh Plumptre and Halimatu Ayinde further disrupted the team’s training schedule.

“We missed the last window before the Olympics, and so we missed 10 days of good training before the Olympics,” Waldrum explained.
