Paris 2024: Waldrum Blames Poor Preparation For Super Falcons Failure

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has suggested that better preparation could have significantly impacted his team’s performance at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The former African champions struggled in the women’s football event, failing to advance beyond the group stage after losing all three matches.

The team spent two weeks in Sevilla, Spain, in preparation for the competition and played a single friendly match, which they lost 1-0 to Canada.

Waldrum expressed that the limited preparation time was a crucial factor in their disappointing performance.

He highlighted that missing out on a vital training window before the Olympics affected their readiness.

“We prepared for them [all three opponents] based on the fact that we haven’t had a lot of time,” Waldrum told ESPN.

“We missed the last window before the Olympics and so we missed 10 days of good training before the Olympics.”

Despite their efforts in Spain, the Super Falcons’ preparation was not enough to secure the results they hoped for in the highly competitive Olympic tournament.
