World record holder Tobi Amusan began her Olympic campaign with a stunning first-place finish in her 100m hurdles heat. 

Amusan, competing in the first heat, started the race from lane 9 and nailed the victory with a time of 12.49 seconds.

She outpaced USA’s Alaysha Johnson, who finished second in 12.61 seconds, and Janeek Brown, who came third with a time of 12.84 seconds.

The 27-year-old is now through to the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles and will compete on Friday for a spot in the final.

Team Nigeria is still searching for any medal, but remains hopeful with Amusan and others still in the competition.
