The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, are due to arrive in Bordeaux as they prepare for their first appearance in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in 16 years.
The nine-time African champions are expected to touch down in the French city late Thursday night, from Spain aboard an Air France flight.
A delegation comprising 18 players, four alternate players, and officials, will then head to their Hotel Mercure accommodations.
Meanwhile, when the games get underway, the Super Falcons will face Brazil, Spain, and Japan in the group stages.
Historically, Nigeria’s first Olympic entry was in Sydney 2000, where they were eliminated in the first round following defeats to China, Norway, and the USA.
The Super Falcons reached the quarter-finals at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Their last Olympic appearance was in 2008 in China, where they faced defeats against Korea DPR, Germany, and Brazil.
