The Federal House of Representatives has announced a ₦100 million support package for Nigerian athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas stated that the support is intended to motivate and empower Team Nigeria to excel.

“We recognize the importance of sports in nation-building and the potential of our athletes to bring glory to our great nation. This support is a token of our appreciation for their dedication and hard work,” Abbas said.

Expressing gratitude, Sports Minister Senator John Enoh Owan praised the legislators for their patriotism and commitment to fostering national unity through sports.

“I thank the hallowed chamber for their patriotism. This gesture is a commitment from the legislators to foster national unity through sports and boost the international reputation of the country, using sports as an instrument for international relations.

“We are committed to providing our athletes with the best possible support to help them succeed.

“This funding will significantly impact their training and preparation, enabling them to achieve greater heights in their respective sports.”

The Olympics is set to begin on July 26th in Paris, with Team Nigeria starting their campaign on the 25th as the Super Falcons take on Brazil in their first group stage match.
