Nigerian Wrestling coach, Purity Akuh, has expressed determination to keep pushing forward despite the Contingent’s challenging start at the Paris Olympics.

The team has yet to secure a medal, which Akuh acknowledges is a disappointment, but he emphasized that they are committed to giving their best in the remaining competitions.

Akuh highlighted that the Olympics is a stage for the best-prepared athletes, and while the team has faced setbacks, they remain focused on upcoming matches.

“We put up our best, but our best was not good enough. We had a bronze medal match with Japan, and I feel Japan did more than we did. But that’s by the way. Hopefully, by the grace of God, we have a few more competitors, and we hope that we’ll do well,” Akuh said.

He noted the unique challenges of the Olympic stage, where even seasoned athletes can feel the pressure.

“The Olympics is a different competition entirely. It’s a big stage that can intimidate a lot of people, even the big athletes.”
