Nigeria’s Anuoluwapo Opeyori suffered a defeat in his opening badminton match against Switzerland’s Tobias Kuenzi at the ongoing Paris Olympics.
Kuenzi, ranked 181st in the world, triumphed over the 10th-ranked Nigerian in straight sets during their Group N encounter.
The first set was a tight contest, with Kuenzi edging out a 22-20 victory.
He then went on to secure a more comfortable win in the second set, finishing 21-14, and clinching the match 2-0.
Reflecting on the match, Opeyori said, “It was a close game, I really gave my best but it was just unfortunate. It’s a combination of several factors here and there. I’m ready to give my best in the next game.”
Opeyori now faces a formidable challenge in his final Group N match against world No. 6 Li Shifeng, scheduled for Wednesday (today).
