Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Super Falcons Have Big Ambitions – Oshoala

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has expressed the team’s ambition to not only navigate through the so-called “group of death” but also to secure a medal.

Speaking to FIFA.com, the six-time African Women’s Player of the Year conveyed the team’s high confidence and readiness to compete at the highest level.

“At the World Cup last year, people said the same thing. They said we were in the Group of Death [with Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland] and could not qualify. But we did,” Oshoala recalls.

“I have a lot of confidence in this team. We have many young players, and we can make things difficult for our opponents.”

“We don’t just think about getting out of the group; I think we can actually walk away with a medal,” the 29-year-old concluded.

Randy Waldrum’s squad has been drawn into a challenging group with the 2023 Women’s World Cup champions, Spain, Brazil and Japan.

The women’s football tournament is set to kick off on July 25, a day before the Olympic Games’ opening ceremony, with the Super Falcons starting their campaign against Brazil.
