Athletics coach and former member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Technical Committee, Olalekan Soetan has expressed confidence in the readiness of Nigerian athletes for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games.

In a conversation with Brila.net, Soetan highlighted the extensive preparations and the successful participation of Nigerian athletes in various high-level competitions leading up to the Olympics.

“The athletes are ready. They must have been ready to even pick up their automatic qualifiers. The standard set was so high that in some events, just 12 in the world has met the automatic qualifying standard, leaving the remaining spot for ranking quota.” Soetan explained.

He emphasized that Nigerian athletes have been consistent in their performance at high-ranking competitions, securing multiple spots through both automatic and ranking-based qualifications.

“Those who are competing consistently in high ranking competitions. Those who are who and who will pick up those spots. And we have a couple of athletes, up to 16 of them picking automatic qualifiers, with some having double qualifications.

“f you are asking me if we are ready, I think those athletes are ready,” he added.
