The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has expressed optimism regarding the Super Falcons’ chances of advancing from their group despite their second consecutive loss in the group stage of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gusau praised the team’s hard work, noting that the late goal conceded against Spain was a significant setback, especially considering their improved performance following the initial loss to Brazil.
He extended his best wishes to the team for their final group game, emphasizing that they still have a chance to advance.
“It’s not easy to play the World Champions. We saw how the game went. They were able to get the chance in the 86th minute. We created a lot of chances, brilliant chances. But I know the game is still on. We can still qualify to the next round,” Gusau said.
“If by the grace of God we can work harder than what happened and we beat Japan, obviously we are going to go to the next round of the tournament. There is still an opportunity for us. We will just work hard to get the goal. By the grace of God, we are able to do more, work more.”
He acknowledged the tight schedule of the tournament, noting, “The tournament is a very tight tournament. We have only two days. So it’s just a recovery period for them to go and face the next match.
“We got a lot of chances, clear chances that will come back to get them.”
Gusau concluded with confidence in the team’s understanding of what needs to be done, saying, “I think they know exactly what they need to do. I guess I will go and see how it goes in this match against Japan.”
