Paris 2024: Former Super Falcons Coach Blames Players for Brazil Defeat

Former Super Falcons coach Rolandson Odey has suggested that Nigeria’s women’s national team showed too much respect to Brazil in their 1-0 loss at the Olympic Games Women’s Football event.

Odey pointed out that despite the loss, the Super Falcons did not perform poorly.

As the team prepares for their next group game against World Champions Spain, he emphasized that the match could go either way.

“It’s not a bad one; it’s just that we were lackadaisical in our attitude and display from the onset, and Okeke was jittery,” Odey remarked.

“All the same, it was not a bad game. We also had our own chances that we couldn’t convert. I think we respected the Brazilians in the first half, which is why we paid dearly for it.”

He added, “It’s football, we were not disgraced. I watched Spain against Japan, it was 2-1. It’s a 50-50 game, forget about that world champion title.

“All teams at the Olympics came here to compete, not just participate. It’s an equal 50-50 game, let’s see how it goes, but I’ve not lost hope in the Falcons team.”

The Super Falcons will now face world champions, Spain in the second game of the group on Sunday, 28th July.
