Ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games, Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne acknowledges the challenging test her team will face against Brazil in their opening fixture.
Randy Waldrum’s squad will kick off their quest for a podium finish in Paris with a Group C clash against the South Americans in Bordeaux on Thursday, July 25.
Brazil, known for their strong footballing heritage, poses a significant challenge.
However, Payne, expressed confidence in the Super Falcons, and the team’s capabilities, asserting that they are on par with the Brazilians.
“Brazil is a tough team and talented, but as Nigeria, we are at their level and it’s going to be a good match,” she said.
Payne, who shone for the Super Falcons during the last Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia, is eager to make her mark at the Olympics.
“Playing at the World Cup was an amazing experience and being able to compete on the international stage with this team again is a good opportunity and I’m excited,” the former Sevilla star told NFF TV.
In addition to Brazil, the Nigerian team will face formidable opponents in current world champions Spain and Japan within the same group.
