Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed confidence in her team’s ability to upset former world champions Japan in their final Olympics Group C game.
The high-stakes match, scheduled to hold at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes this Wednesday.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons,, currently sit at the bottom of Group C, having lost both of their opening games to Brazil and Spain.
To have any chance of advancing to the quarter-finals, Nigeria must record a win against the Asian champions, either by achieving a favorable goal difference to qualify in the second or third spot.
“Victory over Japan is possible. We will work hard so that we can accomplish that. The Super Falcons have done it before and we can do it again,” Ajibade told thenff.com.
The Super Falcons previously defeated Japan 1-0 in their last Olympic encounter in Piraeus, Greece, in 2004.
Ajibade remains optimistic that her team can replicate that success.
