D’Tigress player, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, ahead of their final showdown in the 2023 AfroBasket against Senegal, has said that the current squad can achieve the fourth consecutive title after beating host nation, Rwanda, 79-48 in the semi-final on Thursday.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah, who was also part of the 2021 championship winner team, said that D’Tigress is in a good spot to repeat the success of their predecessors under the tutelage of coach Rena Wakama.
“I feel really honoured, the team that won the two years ago was a phenomenal team, but I think this group as well is able to fill those shoes perfectly and under the leadership of coach Rena, I think we are in a good spot to repeat that win.”
D’Tigress will face the most successful team in the competition, Senegal who will be gunning for their twelfth title. On the other hand, Nigeria is chasing a fourth straight Chip and their sixth overall, when they face off on Sunday in Kigali.
