The Super Eagles isn’t a team with great quality, and Austin Eguavoen deserves some credit for what he has achieved with the squad, says former National team coach Fatai Amoo.
Amoo who has worked with the National Men’s U20 and U23 teams, makes a case for “reshuffling” the current squad to bring in more quality talents.
Speaking with Brila.net, Amoo insists the Super Eagles’ performances in their AFCON 2025 qualifiers is a fair reflection of where the team’s quality ranks.
“Our expectations are high truly, and we judge this team based on past achievements, but do you think even Pep Guardiola would pick these players we have now?”
“We have Ejuke (Chidera), who has. shown fantastic talent and I believe he deserves more time, but there are also players out here in the league who can deliver what we lack,” Amoo continues.
“So far, it looks like we’ve got some stability in the defense and there’s a lot of quality in the attack, but the midfield still is a concern.
“We lack that creativity, and it’s why people still ask for a player like Okocha till date. However, I think if we look inwards we will find the answers.”
