Other Nigerian sports not motivated by Government- Coach Bala Mohammed

Coach Bala Mohammed has revealed that the Nigeria senior national handball team ahead of the 2020 African Handball Nations Championship will give a good representation of themselves if the Ministry of the Youth and sports and the Federal Government can give them the necessary support ahead of the championship in January.

In a chat with brila.net, The national team coach expressed his sadness with the poor treatment meted to other sports in Nigeria “We are going to do our best at the Nations championship though other sports are not motivated by the Federal government in Nigeria, we divert all our attention and resources to football which is bad.

I commend most of the boards of every sports federation, the government has to look at the youths, we shouldn’t channel all the resources to football we should give to other sports.”

The former Handball player cum coach disclosed that despite the challenge faced by the handball team, the boys are prepared to give their best in the continental championship to remain in contention of a maiden African Men’s Handball Championship trophy, but emphasizes that the ministry must come up with a policy that protects the players and development of the game in Nigeria.

“The lost glory is coming back to Nigeria handball, This nation’s cup we will show our class, If we could hold on to the big teams in Africa to secure qualification then we are coming back”.

Nigeria’s best finish at the African championship is 4th in 1998, at Nigeria’s last appearance in the 2018 African Men’s Handball Championship they finished 10th.
