Östersunds FK Signs Sunday Anyanwu

Swedish football club Östersunds FK has confirmed the signing of 23-year-old defender Sunday Anyanwu from Nigerian side Bendel Insurance.

The defender joins the Swedish second-tier team on a two-year contract following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season with the Benin Arsenal.

Anyanwu was officially introduced to ÖFK supporters at the Jämtkraft Arena on Saturday, having secured his move after a successful three-week trial with the club.

He is the first player to join Östersunds FK during the current summer transfer window.

In a statement, the club praised Anyanwu’s performance during training sessions.

“Sunday has made a very good impression in training and reinforced the image we had of him from before. He is an aggressive and compliant Centre-back who is also good in the passing game,” said Östersunds FK Sporting Director Stefan Lundin.

“It will be very exciting to follow his development when he has had more time to adapt to Sweden and the football here.”

Anyanwu, who made 55 appearances for Bendel Insurance, was instrumental in their 2023 Federation Cup victory, starting every game during the knockout stages of the tournament.
