An off-the-field bust up between Victor Osimhen and Napoli’s Ultras was averted following the defeat to Empoli in a Serie A match on Sunday.
Travelling Napoli fans booed their players as they headed down the tunnel after the final whistle.
Having lead for more than 70 minutes, Napoli blew a 2-goal lead in the final moments of the match and eventually lost 3-2 at the Stadio Carlo Castellani.
The defeat was the final clog in the wheel of their Scudetto ambitions this season.
Visiting fans were left furious as they jeered and booed their own players for the outcome of the crucial match.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen marched towards the stands in an attempt to confront the Ultras.
However, the Nigerian was stopped by teammate Juan Jesus, while Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne applauded in appreciation of the travelling fans.
The Italian publication reported that:
Just before entering the tunnel, Victor Osimhen wanted to confront Napoli fans who had been booing players.
And the Nigeria international wanted to discuss with them, but was convinced by Juan Jesus to make his way to the dressing room without saying a word.
