Former Chelsea defender, Glen Johnson has expressed his disappointment with the club for failing to secure the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window.
Despite holding talks with Osimhen and his representatives, Chelsea did not finalize the transfer, and the prolific forward instead moved to Turkish side Galatasaray on loan.
The missed opportunity has left Chelsea relying on Nicolas Jackson, who has been criticized for wasteful performances, and Christopher Nkunku, who has poor injury history since joining the club.
Osimhen, meanwhile has already made an impact at Galatasaray, providing an assist during a recent match against Rizespor.
Johnson however believes not signing Osimhen is a missed chance for Chelsea to bolster their squad.
Speaking to Betfred, Johnson emphasized that Chelsea should have done everything possible to land the striker.
“The obvious one would be Victor Osimhen. He was the big name they wanted and didn’t get,” he said.
Johnson further stressed how crucial Osimhen would have been for the club.
“They should have done everything they could to sign him. He’s the kind of player who could have made an instant impact.”
“They’ve signed loads of youngsters that may not be in the team straight away, despite spending a lot of money on them, and I think Osimhen is the big signing that they’ve missed out on.” He claimed.
