Victor Osimhen again was at the heart of a fine performance by Napoli following their 2-0 win over Atalanta to open an 18-point lead on Serie A table.

The Nigerian forward did not get his name on the score sheet, but he picked up an assist as Napoli secured hard fought 2-0 win over Atalanta at Estadio Diego Armando Maradona on Saturday.

It was a very tight contest with the first half ending without a goal.

The Partenopei, in the second half, then saw Matteo Politano’s low strike come off the base of the upright, as they began to ask questions.

Atalanta goalkeeper was the busiest of the two and became increasingly irritated with his teammates, after Osimhen twice intercepted a dangerous back-pass.

Osimhen then tested him with an acrobatic bicycle-kick but Musso, was up to the task once again.

The Nigeria, who is Serie A leading scorer, then watched his glancing header go wide from a short corner.

With the clock winding down, Napoli finally broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, when Osimhen laid off a fine pass for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who left five defenders in his wake, before blasting into the roof of the net with his right foot, from 12 yards.

Napoli doubled their lead with Amir Rrahmani’s looping header from an Eljif Elmas corner, though Musso perhaps mistimed the jump.
