Osimhen is not getting enough service from teammates — Ivory Coast Coach

Ivory Coast head coach Jean-Louis Gasset says that Super Eagles are not getting the best out of Victor Osimhen, stressing that the Napoli is usually isolated by his teammates.

Gasset’s side will face Super Eagles in one of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations’ most anticipated game on Thursday, with Osimhen one of the players to watch.

Osimhen scored in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday and missed two other glorious opportunities.

Gasset believes the striker is not receiving sufficient support from his teammates, which could work in his side’ favor.

“We know Nigeria’s strengths and their weaknesses,” Gasset said.

“Their attacking line-up is impressive and their striker (Victor Osimhen) is the best in Africa but when they play they isolate him, so we will play that way to isolate him as well.” He said.

Gasset’s side currently lead Group A with two more points than the Eagles and are favourites to win the encounter on Thursday.

“We will have to improve but having got the opening match pressure off, I’m sure my players will step up.”

The Eagles defeated the Elephants 2-1 when they met in 2013.
