Osimhen fails to shine as Liverpool ends Napoli’s unbeaten run

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen fired blank for Napoli in their Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday.

Osimhen played from the start as the Partenopei slumped to a 2-0 defeat in their last Group game at Anfield.

Osimhen, who was harmful during the first leg at the Diego Maradona’s Stadium, had a quiet night with Napoli failing to hit top gear.

The 23-year-old played one (1) key pass, one long ball and one shot off target.

He had no successful dribble, but contested 15 duels, with two (2) tackles before he was replaced by Giovanni Simeone in the 88th minute.

Late goals from Mohammed Salah and Darwin Nunez was enough for Liverpool to take all three points at stake.

The defeat ended Luciano Spalletti’s men 21 match unbeaten run and 13 straight wins in all competition.

Despite the loss, Napoli still qualifies for round of 16 as the Group winners ahead of Liverpool with +3 goals difference.

Both Clubs finished the Group phase with 15 points and will now look to the round of 16 draw which holds on November 7.
