Victor Osimhen says his main objective at Galatasaray is to contribute to the team’s success, not to compete with fellow striker Mauro Icardi.
The Nigerian forward, who joined the Turkish club on loan from Napoli during the summer transfer window, expressed his admiration for the Argentine, calling him a “legend” of the club.
Since arriving in Istanbul, Osimhen has quickly found his form, scoring two goals and providing four assists in his first four games across all competitions.
His impressive performances have sparked speculation that he could overshadow Icardi, who was the focal point of Galatasaray’s attack last season.
However, Osimhen downplayed any rivalry with Icardi, saying, they have ability to play well together on the pitch.
Both players started in Galatasaray’s recent victory over Kasımpaşa, with each finding the back of the net before Osimhen was substituted.
“I have great respect for Icardi and what he has done for football and Galatasaray,” Osimhen said.
“He’s a big legend here. We’ve shown that we can work well together on the pitch. For me, it’s not about being the top scorer in the league. I want to score, assist, and help the team in any way I can, whether in attack or defense, just as the coach needs me to. Collective success is what matters most.”
Osimhen celebrated his two goals against Kasımpaşa alongside Icardi, proving the pair’s strong chemistry and positive sign for Galatasaray as they look to challenge for titles this season.
