Victor Osimhen scored his first competitive senior team goal and on home soil as Nigeria fought from a goal down to defeat Benin 2-1 in their opening AFCON 2021 qualifying match.
Osimhen struck from the spot in additional time (45+1′) of the first half to bring Nigeria level after Stephane Sessegnon fired the visitors ahead inside the opening 3 minutes.
Samuel Kalu scored a spectacular solo goal (63′) to earn Gernot Rohr’s men a win and avoid a disappointing start to the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Osimhen’s goal on Wednesday brought his tally for the Super Eagles to 2 in 8 caps, and the Forward took it all in with glee.
In his instagram message the morning after, the youngster posted:
Team performance na 💯 percent ✅on to the next one💪🏽we move
