Former African footballer of the year Nwankwo Kanu is confident that Victor Osimhen, can compete with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Edouard Mendy for the African Footballer of the year award.
Osimhen is one of Africa ‘s hottest strikers in Europe top five league with six goals from four matches for Napoli this season.
The 22-year-old Super Eagles forward also scored once in two FIFA World Cup qualifying games for Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Kanu who is the last Nigerian to win the award said, Osimhen is on the right track to compete for the honor.
“Osimhen is doing fantastically well in Italy. If he keeps on doing it and maintain the momentum, definitely, he will be there.”
“We have other players who are doing well but for now, he is the one on top.” he said.
Recall that Osimhen won CAF young player of the year award in 2015 after leading Nigeria to FIFA U17 World Cup glory in Chile.
