Asisat Oshoala scored her 23rd goal of the season for Barcelona, but wasn’t enough to save them from defeat at Athletico Madrid on Tuesday.
Oshoala and her mates went into the match at the back of the historic treble win over the weekend, but fell short of qualities as Athletico came back from behind to win 4-3 at the Estadio Wanda Atletico de Madrid
Amanda Sampedro put the hosts in front with a superb finisb in the 12 minutes of the encounter.
Athletico’s lead only last for seven minutes as the European champions restored parity through Bruna Vilamala with as assist from Jana Fernandez.
Oshoala put Barcelona in front for the first time in the 38th minute, when she converted a perfect pass from Vicky Losada.
It was her her 16th league goal of the season in the Spanish Iberdrola and 23 across all competitions.
The hosts later levelled 13 minutes after the restart, thanks to a good strike from Emelyne Laurent.
In the 66th minute, Emelyne Laurent put Atletico lead again with her second goal of the match to the shock of the champions, before Marta Torrejon hit back for the Champions eight minutes later.
Athletico sealed te famous win 10 minutes from time with a goal from Deyna Castellanos.
The defeat brought an end to Barcelona’s 49-match unbeaten run in the country’s topflight, it’s also the first league win for Atletico over the Catalonians since February 17, 2019.
Oshoala lasted for the entire duration for Barcelona, while her compatriot, Ajibade saw 45 minutes of action.
