Oshoala fires Barcelona into UEFA Women’s Champions League last four

Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala was on target for Barcelona Femino in their 2-1  defeat to Manchester City in UEFA Women’s champions league second leg quarter-final clash on Wednesday.

Barcelona came into the match with a three-goal advantage from the first leg and it will take something special from the hosts to turn the table around.

City started well and took the lead early in the first half. Greenwood’s corner was flicked on by Sam Mewis and Janine Beckie was at the right place to poke it home.

Oshoala almost equalized for Barcelona in the 32nd minute as Barça broke upfield. Hansen’s shot was pushed back into the path of Oshoala who looks certain to score but Lucy Bronze makes a phenomenal block on the goal line to prevent her effort from going in.

Oshoala finally leveled the game for Barcelona in the 60th minutes, when Greenwood’s poor clearance attempted clearance fell kindly for Hansen who then set up Oshoala for the equalizer.

Manchester City later regained their lead from the penalty spot after Laila Ouahabi fouled White in the box and Sam Mewis made no mistake from six yards.

The Catalan giants held on and progressed into the semi-final with a 4-2 aggregate win over City.

It was the first defeat for Barcelona since January when they lost to Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup.

Barcelona will now meet Lyon or PSG in the semi-final of the competition, but before they will take on Levante in a league match this weekend.
