Asisat Oshoala is a front runner for an unprecedented sixth African Women’s Footballer of the Year honor.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) shortlisted Oshoala, unveiling the 30-player roster on Tuesday via their official X handle.
Having clinched the title last year, the Nigeria Forward seeks to etch her name in history as the only African Woman footballer to secure the award six times.
Oshoala was instrumental in Barcelona’s UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph last season, and helped the Super Falcons reach the knock knock phase of 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Joining the 29 year-old in the race are fellow Nigerian footballers Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi, Christy Ucheibe, Toni Payne, and Uchenna Kanu.
The diverse nominations highlight the formidable talent within the Super Falcons squad.
Meanwhile, Asisat Oshoala, who is Nigeria’s most decorated footballer with 21 major honors and 17 individual awards, stands poised to make history with her potential sixth Women’s Footballer of the Year triumph.
The 2023 CAF Awards Gala set to take place in Marrakech Morocco, on Monday, November 20.
