Gift Orban wasted no time announcing his arrival at Hoffenheim, scoring his debut goal in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt at the PreZero Arena on Sunday.
The 22-year-old forward, who recently joined Hoffenheim from French side Lyon, made an immediate impact, helping his new side secure a vital point in their relegation battle.
The match began with Frankfurt drawing first blood through Hugo Ekitike, who converted a penalty in the 26th minute to put the visitors ahead.
Hoffenheim thought they had levelled the score when Adam Hlozek found the back of the net, but VAR ruled the effort offside, leaving the home fans frustrated.
Orban entered the fray in the 63rd minute and made an instant impression. Just two minutes after coming on, the Nigerian forward connected with a perfectly timed cross from Hlozek to slot home the equalizer and ignite hopes of a comeback.
However, Frankfurt regained their lead in the 71st minute, with Ekitike doubling his tally for the day.
Hoffenheim refused to back down, and their relentless pressure paid off in stoppage time. Hlozek redeemed himself by scoring a dramatic late equalizer to salvage a crucial point for the struggling hosts.
Orban’s compatriot, Kevin Akpoguma, also featured for the full 90 minutes, putting in a solid defensive shift.
The result leaves Hoffenheim precariously positioned in 15th place on the Bundesliga table, just four points above the relegation zone, with 18 points from 19 matches.
Up next, Hoffenheim faces a challenging trip to Bayer Leverkusen as they continue their fight for survival.
