Flamingos star Opeyemi Ajakaye is excited as her side fought past Chile to secure their place in the U17 Women’s World Cup knockout stages.
The Flamingos defeated the Chileans 2-1 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
It was a result that secured a place in the last 8 with six-point from a possible nine in the Group phase.
Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Ajakaye was named the woman of the match, her second of the tournament.
“Happy to have received the player of the match award against Chile! Even happier to have qualified for the knockout stage” She posted on social media.
With another two goals today, the Flamingos have further demonstrated their goalscoring capabilities.
They have now scored 7 goals in the group stages, most in the Group after Group winner Germany.
The team have now qualified for the last eight of the tournament for the fourth time in the history of the tournament.
