Days after getting dumped out of FIFA Women’s World Cup, Super Falcons captain Desire Oparanozie shared an “iconic” photo of herself and German captain Alexandra Popp – but the sporting gesture was greeted with mixed reaction.
It was Popp who started the battering, with a header to breach the Falcons defence after 20 minutes.
Before the final whistle, the two times World Champions had put three past the African champions.
But whilst the battle was on, there was very little pleasantry or cordiality showed by either captains, who were teammates six years prior.
In an instagram post on Wednesday, Oparanozie share a picture of the two still on the pitch with their backs to the camera.
The 25 year-old forward, who spent a season at Wolfsburg and shared the locker room with Popp, captioned the picture:
Wolfsburg connect. #Memories
However, not everybody was pleased with Oparanozie or the Falcons and they showed their angst with some scathing criticism.
One IG user commented: your performance against Germany was rubbish.
Another posted: Probably the only thing you achieved in that match, see as small girls una mate beat una
But it wasn’t all criticism, as he true fans showered the forward with loads of positive energy.
Emmybankz01 comment was a message of support: You guys tried …keep pushing and more Grace
