Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi put in a standout performance on Monday night, scoring and assisting in Boavista’s narrow 3-2 defeat to Casa Pia in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

The 26-year-old, who has been attracting interest from Turkish and Greek clubs, delivered his third goal of the season and added an assist, displaying his versatility in a more advanced midfield role.

Casa Pia took control early, capitalizing on two own goals by Rodrigo Abascal and Filipe Ferreira in the 30th and 43rd minutes, respectively, to establish a 2-0 lead before halftime. However, Boavista showed some fight, pulling one back just before the break-through Onyemaechi.

The Nigerian pounced on a loose ball following a free kick, calmly slotting it into the net to give the home side hope.

The optimism was short-lived as Casa Pia restored their two-goal cushion 10 minutes into the second half. Things went from bad to worse for Boavista when Pedro Gomes received a red card, reducing the hosts to 10 men.

Despite the setback, Onyemaechi continued to inspire his team. He provided a perfectly timed assist for Róbert Boženík, who scored Boavista’s second goal late in the game. Despite their spirited efforts, Casa Pia’s defense held firm to secure the win.
